We all – once, or twice – must have thought about going back
to our childhood days, and relive those moments once again before spiralling
down into oblivion forever. Those days when, we didn’t have any constraints or
limitations about dreaming anything, when our souls as well as minds were pure
without any bad thoughts – like jealousy, selfishness etc., were golden days
and are really worth remembering. During those days, we were free to build any
castle in air, or in our dream, even defying all the Civil Engineering or
Architectural laws or designing rules.
But, in today’s rapidly moving world, when everyone is busy
in a cut-throat competition to move ahead of others either by hook or crook, we
hardly find even half an hour to think about ourselves, to spend time with our
children and families, to relive those golden days of our childhood – when we
used to be always ready for any work, at any time, round-the-clock, without
losing even a single Joule of energy. I know, if we have to move forward to
achieve success, to earn money, to make our presence feel, we need to work
hard. But, it’s not necessary that we forget about ourselves, our families, our
children in this unending race of success in which we are competing for our own
families’ happiness.
So, I did the job for you all. I tried my best touching
everything – from every phase, angle, or sphere – of our life during childhood
days, and came out with the following list of items, or personalities, or
foods, or whatever we craved or starved for, when we were tiny-tots.
1 1. Shaktimaan
I can bet, nothing or no-one (I
mean it) can beat this first Indian Fictional Superhero – we all craved for in
our childhood days, from getting the first position. He ruled over all our
hearts for nearly a decade, and even now if one gets a chance to relive those
days and to watch the episodes again, no one would deny that. All of us must
have tried that turning-cum-rotational-cum-translational movement of the body,
which was the signature style of Shaktimaan, and slowly made a place in our
life too.
2 2. Grandmother’s/Grandfather’s
Storytelling
And, there was no substitute of “Dadi-Nani ki Kahaniyan” at night before
going to sleep. That Prince-Princess’s story, or King of Jungle – Lion’s story,
we had enjoyed all equally and often we used to attach ourselves to those
stories in such a way that sometimes it appeared as real life stories.
3 3. Play cards
or Trump Cards
We might not have remembered each
and every word listed on the spelling-list given to us in our schools, but we
had memorized every fine details about each player, literally by-heart,
scripted on the trump-cards and knew – better than anyone, which one to use -
when and how – to beat our friends. There isn’t such fun now, while playing 7-27
or 29 card game with a deck-of-cards.
4 4. Carbon
Sheets or papers
Oh, My, God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This used to be our reaction
when we copied something using this – a puzzle-cum-magic in itself – thin
blue/black sheet of carbon paper. But, whatever be our reaction, we never
bothered about copying beautiful drawings with the help of carbon-papers and showing
those drawings to our friends & surprising them with their jaw dropped.
5 5. Pokémon and
Scooby-Doo and Power-puff Girls
How cute was he – Pokémon!!!!!!!! Agree??????? Of course, no
one can deny that. He was the cutest of all the cartoon characters – including
Scooby-Doo, Mickey Mouse, and Powerpuff Girls – especially because of its
attractiveness, prettiness, quaintness, and smallness. Even some of us had the
overwhelming urge to squeeze him because of his cuteness, but we found no trail
of him to content our desire.
6 6. Fragrant
Erasers
While I’m writing this immersing myself in the unending ocean
of numerous memories, I can still feel the aroma of those fragrant erasers we
used to buy and carry to our schools just to make our friends feel astonished.
That distinctive odour or fragrance riding on the back of air, breezing past
our faces duplicating the hip-hop dance in a Brownian-motion used to refresh us
and make our day. I doubt whether we still have those erasers or not!!!!!!!!!
7 7. Designer
and Stylish Pencils
Ah!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I don’t need to write much about this.
The very first of its kind that may come to our minds must be the timeless,
beautiful and amazing – “Shakaa Laaka
Boom Boom” Pencil. How beautifully designed, it used to be!!!!!!!! We had
to make our heart understand about our helplessness to save it from sharpening.
Adding to this, there used to be one more Pencil, with which we used to play
all the time pulling and pushing, again and again, the nails/lead inside and
outside of it – just to make sure we have the desired sharpened nail, or most
of the time for fun.
8 8. Flowers for
our beloved Teachers
“Phool” to make our
teachers “Fool”. Just kidding. Keeping jokes apart, admit it, we all – even
once – had done this. Plucking the most beautiful flower – most preferably a
Rose, that too red from ours’ or neighbour’s garden, or stealing the same from
the bunch of flowers our mother/grandmother used to keep, to offer Gods the
same during prayers, was the first thing we generally used to do in the
morning, just to impress our teachers, in order to make certain that we get
good marks and “Point No. 10”.
9 9. Crayons or
Colouring-Kits
Really, it used to be our most memorable experience – to draw
our mind out on a blank paper and then, filling the same with different
unrealistic and illogical colours just to satisfy our creativity and desire to
use those colours. Among them were the fragrant wax-colours that used to be our
best companion during those days.
1 10. “STARS” in our
copies
Last, but not the least, those stars – in our copies, gifted
when we do a commendable job – were our reasons of ultimate happiness, and mere
a dream of it was sufficient enough to compel us to work hard and do our
home-work sincerely.
Special mention: These were also in demand during those days
- #powdered_mango, #timba_rucha, #Junior_G, #Karma, #plastic_balls, #toys,
#marbles, #top, and the list continues…….
If I missed anything, don’t hesitate in pointing that out.
Comment below that endless list of items you used to crave for in your
childhood days and to which most of the children may attach themselves.
