How many of you still
remember the lullaby – “chanda hai tu,
mera suraj hai tu”, used to be sung by our mother or any other motherly
figure when, during our childhood, it was just impossible to make us sleep. At
that instant, we used to be very proud of ourselves on being compared to the
mighty Sun or Moon or, being aware of the fact that we are like an apple of our
mother’s eye. Those childhood days were awesome and, we all do cherish those
memories in spite of being busy in our daily life.
Then, we are also familiar
with one more lullaby – “chanda mama door
ke”, according to which Moon used to be our Maternal Uncle. This twin
identity of our beloved moon must have puzzled many of us that, at one instant
we are moon and at other, “moon is our mama”!!!!!!!!!! How could this be
possible? That doubt remained unanswered for many coming years.
Days passed, nights rolled
down, years took leap, we started growing up and then came the day we got
admission in our schools. There, we got Science as one of our subject and, in 2nd
or 3rd standard we had a chapter on our Solar System. When that
chapter on Solar System was being taught to us, the doubt about twin identity
of Moon, which was in a dormant state in one corner of our mind, suddenly came
back to life again. We came to know that – neither we are like moon nor, moon
is our mama. Instead, it’s a celestial body, our Mother Earth’s only natural
satellite. At that instant, our puzzle must have been solved but, our hopes got
shattered. Somehow we controlled our emotions and, accepted the bitter but,
true fact. In that form also, as a natural satellite of our planet, we never
stopped liking our own Moon. We also learnt, how Moon revolves around Earth,
how it gets light from Sun and, how Neil Armstrong stepped on moon for the very
first time, which was regarded as a giant leap for the mankind.
But, the mystery wasn’t over
now. Some more facts were still waiting for us. Now, it was our turn to treat
Moon in our own way, to make our own definition and, to give it a totally
different & new identity – in accordance to our feelings, emotions, love,
and compassion.
One more decade passed and,
we entered our teenage years and started developing feelings and emotions about
our better half or say, about our opposite sex. We started understanding love
and how it feels on being loved. We always had loved spending time with our
love. And then, came the Moon in between the love story with a new twist. Now,
we were matured enough to personify the Moon and, we did that successfully and
undoubtedly without any mistake. As per the boys, they started treating their
girlfriends as “chandni” and, for
girls, boys were their “chand”. Then
again, arose a doubt and, this time it was about the sexuality of the Moon,
whether it’s a boy or a girl. This mystery is still not over and it continues
even today. But, don’t panic, the pace at which science is unravelling the
truth about everything in this universe every now and then, I hope this secret
will be unearthed very soon. Till then, I have only one song to remember and I
must suggest you all to keep hearing that – “chand chhipa badal mein”……………………
But, wait, wait, there are other songs too like – “chand mera dil, chandni ho tum” or, “maiine puchha chand se, dekha hai kahin” etc. Keep listening…………………………………..
